How To Make Caramel Sauce
If you want to make things easy on yourself you can easily buy a pack of caramel sauce at your favorite grocery store (the caramel apple slices sauce you can find at wal-mart for example).
Another option is to simply buy your favorite caramel candy and melt what you’ll want to use for your apple nachos.
To make a simple caramel sauce at home, mix together:
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 a stick of butter
- 1/2 a cup of your favorite milk
- A pinch of salt to your liking
- A smidge of vanilla extract
Whisk it all together in a pan until the sugar dissolves completely and its well mixed.
How To Keep Apples From Browning
One great trick to keep apples from browning is to soak them in lemon juice. Keep in mind this might add a zesty taste to them but it will definitely keep them from browning too much.
You want to make sure you limit exposure to oxygen once you’ve fixed and cut your apples. If you don’t like using lemon juice with your fruit try soaking your apple slices in pineapple juice. A lot of people swear by it to keep your apples from browning and turning yucky (though I’d still eat them regardless!).
