DIY Rainbow Sugar Scrub With Free Printable Rainbow Label

Rainbow sugar scrub recipeIt is all colors and rainbows for this sugar scrub and I couldn’t be any more in LOVE with it!

Earlier in January I went on a bit of a sugar scrub creation binge and came up with all kinds of combinations and ideas.

This one was definitely a sight for sore eyes and it honestly turned out a lot better than I imagined it at first (which is always a treat if you do a lot of DIY and crafting).

So if you want to make a fun and natural sugar scrub you can make as a DIY gift idea or to treat yourself, you can get the full recipe below.

DIY Rainbow Sugar Scrub

[ingredients title=”What you’ll need”] [/ingredients] [directions title=”Directions”]
  1. Add 1 tablespoon of honey to each of the six bowls
  2. Then start with adding one drop of dye of each color in each bowl and mix
  3. If you aren’t satisfied the color, add another drop or too and mix then go from there
  4. Mix all bowls well (this might take a bit)
  5. Print out your rainbow sugar scrub label and cut out
  6. tape it onto the top of your mason jar (it’s a 3-D label!)
  7. Then start spooning the red sugar scrub into your mason jar and level with a spoon until you have a nice layer
  8. Then add your yellow, green, purple, and so on while leveling each layer off with a small spoon
  9. Layer until you get to the brim, then seal with your mason jar lid and enjoy!

Mix all your colors well

When you layer your sugar scrub, you get to decide how thin or thick you want your layers to be. That way you can either repeat each color more in your mason jar or just repeat each sugar scrub color once.

It’s totally your call! That’s what’s awesome about making sugar scrubs yourself! You get to decide!

Here you can see how I started layering each color a little at a time until I got them each to a similarly thick layer. At first I wanted to follow the colors of the rainbow exactly. That means follow the ‘ROY G BIV’ color order.

Meaning:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet

In that order. But then I remembered I don’t really like orange. For the life of me I can’t really figure out why, I just really don’t. And then I thought I didn’t really want to take the time to create indigo.

So instead I simply went with red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and a pinkish red. And I loved the results. But you can really play around with the colors and use the ones you like best.

For example, if you don’t really like yellow, simply leave it out. There are no rules!

How long does your sugar scrub last?

Your sugar scrub can last for about a month if refrigerated.

If left out in the open at room temperature, it might not last as long and it runs the risk of growing icky germs. So it’s best to be careful not to do that.

Also, when you scoop out the sugar scrub amount you’re going to use, instead of using your fingers which can harbor germs, use a clean utensil for best practice.

Can I make this sugar scrub with coconut oil instead of honey?

You absolutely can!

Just keep in mind that coconut oil’s smells tends to be strong. So your sugar scrub will smell a lot like the oil, unless you add in heavy amount of other ingredients (which I don’t use in this particular recipe, I wanted to keep it simple).

What kind of dye can I use in my sugar scrubs?

If you want to be practical, you can simply use food coloring to create your sugar scrubs.

But if you want to take it one step further, you can buy a set of Natural Skin Safe Food Coloring that you can use in your sugar scrubs and other foods. It’s vegan, skin friendly, and gluten free.

Enjoy the rainbow sugar scrub photo shoot!

I honestly could NOT make up my mind about which photos I should include in the blog post after making this sugar scrub. So far, it’s one of my all time favorites (I mean, the colors! can you blame me?) because it’s almost too pretty to use!

So, yeah. Enjoy the rest of the sugar scrub pictures! 🙂
