DIY Washi Tape Pencil Holder: A Simple Washi Tape Decor Idea Anyone Can Do

Washi tape is one of my secret weapons when I want to add color to just about anything.

It can stick to lots of surfaces and it doesn’t leave nasty residue if you decide to take it off. For this little DIY washi tape tutorial you only need a blank pencil holder.

Mine actually used to be an old pot for an indoor plant that unfortunately didn’t make it. 🙁

So I decided to wash out the dirt in it and use it to hold my growing collection of tombow brush pens for my bullet journal.

Really this DIY project doesn’t need much explaining. It’s pretty straight forward and the end result is that you get an awesome and colorful pencil holder!

You want to make sure that, when you’re putting the washi tape on, you keep it as straight as you can. Or who knows you can also make it not straight on purpose for a cool DIY washi tape design.

Now, straight isn’t the only way to add washi tape to anything. You can add little pieces of washi tape all around for a more ‘sprinkled’ look.

Or you can even add washi tape in random directions that connect for a more ‘geometric’ look.

It’s totally up to you! Check out the before and after for this easy washi tape idea to see just how much of a difference something as simple as washi tape can do.

Glass Pencil Holder

My glass indoor plant pot turned pencil holder happened to be neon green. You can choose your own color, you can paint it, or you can even use a blank mason jar for this activity (a mason jar would actually look really nice!)

Now, obviously, you’re going to need some washi tape. I got some off Amazon for about ten bucks. It brought a bunch of smaller washi tape rolls in all kinds of colors I could use (mostly for my bullet journals).

You can get some washi tape here.

Remember to keep it as straight as you can when you’re applying your washi tape. Don’t be afraid to rip it off and start over if you don’t like how it turned out.

NOTE: I’m hoping to invest in a camera soon to be able to take better photos. An Iphone 6 camera is good, but sometimes it just won’t cut it. Either way I couldn’t resist adding this simple DIY washi tape post!
