Watermelon and strawberries are two of the BEST simple pleasures summer brings you.

And if you blend then into a watermelon strawberry smoothie, well, you’ve basically got bliss in a cup.

Smoothies are those easy to make and oh so tasty (and really good for you!) summer treats that you can have basically any time you want.

What makes them fun is being able to personalize them down to the specific texture and taste, if you want to get THAT specific about it.

Me personally? I like a smoothie that’s naturally sweet, which means I don’t have to add any extra sugar to it (I lean towards liking salty things anyway).

I also like it when a smoothie packs an unexpected flavor that you wouldn’t mind chugging down again and again.

This particular smoothie recipe is refreshing and easy to make to where, you’ll probably have it down pat after the first try.

The cool thing about watermelons is that you can use them as a flavorful and refreshing base for a lot of things besides smoothies, like mixed drinks.

The best watermelon strawberry smoothie

So naturally, knowing I’d be writing a whole lot about watermelons in this post, I thought I’d look around and see what exactly the health benefits of watermelon were.

Turns out they’re FILLED with vitamin C, B, and A, and are full of carotenoids.

And if you’re trying to control your weight or caloric intake, watermelon is one of your best sidekicks, with only about 46 calories per cup! Crazy huh?

Not to mention it’s also excellent for your skin and hair, and helps keep you hydrated.

Healthy Smoothie Ingredients

There are plenty of other ingredients that you can add to your smoothie to make it extra healthy and extra good for you, without changing the taste.

Some awesome smoothie ingredients to help you create the perfect smoothie that I always have in handy are things like—

  • Flax seeds
  • Chia seeds
  • Medjool dates
  • Agave nectar

All of these ingredients are AMAZING in just about any smoothie and they’re full of vitamins and antioxidants. Sometimes, when I want to sweeten my smoothies, instead of using plain old refined sugar (which is really tempting) I’ll add some medjool dates as a natural sweetener or agave nectar.

When you’re making smoothies, there are also conversions to think about, whenever you’re making big batches of something and still want it to taste good. Thankfully, I’ve created a guide to help you with liquid conversions!

Smoothie Tricks and Tips

Don’t add ice just freeze your fruit!

Another cool way to modify your smoothies is to freeze your fruit before adding them to a blender. This way you get more of a slushie smoothie texture, which can be great for when you want something extra cold.

Use coconut water

Coconut water is ANOTHER great smoothie ingredient that a lot of people overlook. And best of all you can have fun with it! Since coconut water goes great with lots of different fruit combinations.

Meal prep your smoothies

One cool smoothie hack I like to use is, when I’m doing meal prep Sunday, I like to make sure to fill a few freezer bags with cut up combinations of my favorite smoothie ingredients.

That way in the mornings I can literally just grab and go. It makes it WAY easier to make sure I’m drinking a smoothie a day as consistently as possible and getting as much servings of fruits and veggies as possible.

Use almond milk

Almond milk is another great base for fruit and vegetable smoothies. It’s a richer ingredient so your smoothies will be more filling than if you use a water base for them like ice.

You can get almond milk pretty much everywhere. I prefer to get the most organic version possible that is labeled sugar free. No need to add extra sugars if you don’t necessarily have to.

Remember that your fruits already pack plenty of natural sugars themselves!
